Agents move into the back office

Man Group builds its own harness, administrators rebuild around agents, and the smartest small funds keep a human on every 'no'.

Reporting window: the week ending Oct 13, 2026. Older background items carry their own dates in the citations.

The big story this fall isn't a new model. It's where investors are putting agents. A year ago the demos were all front office: screen a deck, summarize a CIM. This month the news is about plumbing. Man Group says its operations team is testing agent-to-agent workflows with its external administrator and custodian. Formidium launched an administration platform built around agents from the ground up. Juniper Square now sells an agent whose only job is checking the administrator's work.

That shift matters for firms of every size. Fund admin, LP reporting and reconciliation are where mid-size managers lose the most hours and have the least differentiation. They're also where errors are expensive, so the winning pattern so far is the one Allvue describes for capital calls: agents prepare every step, humans approve every gate.

The big picture

Man Group ships its own multi-model agent harness

The quant giant built the infrastructure that connects LLMs to its tools, memory and execution environments rather than buying one. Discretionary PMs use it to cover more names, and ops is piloting agent-to-agent work with its administrator and custodian. Markets Media, Oct 7, 2026 ↗

Try this week: draft your LP letter, not your numbers

Hanover Park published a Claude Skill that drafts a quarterly LP letter from live fund data through a read-only connector, with prose drafted, figures pulled and a tie-out appendix. Even if you don't use their platform, copy the rule: let AI write the words, never the numbers. support.hanoverpark.com ↗
